The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk® is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against this fatal disease. Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $260 million for the cause.
Memory Walk is a community event that joins friends, family and co-workers as they walk to end Alzheimer’s. Walks are held in nearly 600 locations nationwide. Please join us in taking steps to end Alzheimer's.
The second annual Silicon Valley Memory Walk will be held on September 12, 2009 at the Arena Green in Downtown San Jose (across from the Shark Tank/HP Pavilion). FREE PARKING AT THE HP PAVILION. The walk route is flat and walkers can choose a 3 mile or 1 mile route. Well mannered and leashed dogs are permitted, but not encouraged due to the crowds. Check in opens at 8:30 am.
Once again, the event will feature multi-cultural performances from community groups in celebration of World Alzheimer's Day, which is celebrated internationally on September 21, 2009. Enjoy Greek folk dancing, Japanese Odori dancing, a martial arts demonstration, and a Barbershop Quartet! This program begins at 8:30 am.
Get ready to be entertained! Check out musician Steven Gary at the first water stop! Following the walk at the stage, Off On A Tangent Band will play your favorite tunes.
Bring the kids to play in the Children's Pavilion, complete with a bounce house, face painting and crafts.
This is a great opportunity to meet other families touched by Alzheimer's disease, visit with our sponsors, and enjoy live music and dancing. Please note that all walkers should register prior to the walk AND check in on walk day. Walkers will receive a special tote at check in!
